Spear Finger

Spear Finger

Long ago lived an old woman named Spear Finger. She had a different mind (from other people). (Once) four hunters took their wives (hunting) with them. One at a time, she called to them, "Come here a while, let me kill the lice (on our head)." For sure, she was not killing lice!
Actually, a woman was being killed. All the same, whenever they started out, they had lost a woman. The men became antagonized (as their number) became one less. (In time) Spear Finger killed three of them. Then, finally, with the fourth woman they trapped Spear Finger.
They fired upon her with guns. "Lots of gnats", she was saying as she was being hit by the bullets. Then she was startled and they caught her. When they caught he they tied her up. They made wedge and a maul from locust.
They drove the locust carving into her rear opening. The rock armor was ripped. Then they put dry wood inside (a hole they had dug). Then they put Spear Finger in. Then, when they ignited it, she said, "You should be learning doctoring medicine; I am going to teach you where to look". It was burning good. Then, as it burned, it popped and made a whistling-like sound. With this she taught them the formulas for doctoring.
